Arrowroot Powder – Spiritual Uses for Fortune, Purification, and Focus
Folk name: Obedience Plant
Arrowroot Powder has earned its place in folk magick, witchcraft, and spiritual practice as a gentle yet potent root for drawing prosperity, clearing away negativity, and creating focus during rituals. Known by the folk name “Obedience Plant,” arrowroot is particularly popular in prosperity spells, gambling charms, and purification work, blending seamlessly with both traditional and modern magickal approaches.
Its fine, soft texture makes it an ideal base for spell powders, ritual dusts, and condition blends. Rootworkers and witches alike often combine it with herbs such as basil, sassafras, cinnamon, and alfalfa to strengthen workings for money, luck, and opportunity. In charm bags and spell jars, arrowroot is believed to help “set” intentions and open the way forward, especially when seeking fresh starts, increased earnings, or new ventures.
In spiritual baths and floor washes, arrowroot is used to absorb negativity and restore energetic clarity. It is often paired with rosemary, hyssop, or sage for a cleansing effect and added to ritual baths or mop water with a few drops of essential oil or a splash of Chinese Wash. Used this way, arrowroot offers a spiritual reset, clearing mental fog, lingering energy, or crossed conditions.
Because of its symbolic alignment with stability and clarity, arrowroot also finds a place in spellwork for personal growth. Some practitioners use it to affix paper charms to vision boards or sprinkle it around sacred spaces to reinforce spiritual boundaries and focus. In love and attraction work, it blends well with rose, damiana, or cinnamon to amplify charm and gentleness. Its neutral energy means it can enhance intention without overpowering other ingredients.
Arrowroot’s associations with both Jupiter (for expansion and prosperity) and Saturn (for grounding and order) make it a powerful bridge between manifestation and structure, ideal for work that blends dreaming with doing.
