ASTALI: Vintage Heads & Tails Peepshow Necklace, Brass Token, 26″
The Vintage Heads & Tails Peepshow Necklace by ASTALI blends humour, history, and craftsmanship in one collectable piece. Handmade in Los Angeles by designer Shannon De Jong, this necklace features an authentic vintage brass peepshow token from the 1970s–1980s, suspended from a 26-inch antique-brass chain and finished with a matching lobster clasp.
The token bears two inscriptions: “Heads I Win” on one side and “Tails You Lose” on the other. Originally used in peepshow booths across the United States, these tokens once represented both curiosity and rebellion within a changing cultural landscape. Today, they stand as relics of a bygone era, embodying themes of chance, playfulness, and the shifting boundaries between public and private worlds.
ASTALI’s use of reclaimed materials reflects its ongoing commitment to sustainability and creative transformation. By reimagining these tokens as jewellery, Shannon De Jong gives them a new purpose while preserving their historical charm. Each coin carries its own subtle marks and patina, evidence of real use and time-worn character.
The warm brass tones and vintage lettering evoke nostalgia while maintaining a modern, unisex appeal. Whether worn for its tongue-in-cheek humour or as a conversation piece, the Heads & Tails Peepshow Necklace invites reflection on luck, fate, and the stories hidden in everyday objects.
As with all of ASTALI’s work, the design celebrates the balance between the tactile and the symbolic — turning what was once ordinary into something enduring and expressive.
