The Esoteric Astrology Oracle explores astrology beyond personality traits and conventional horoscope readings, using the zodiac, planets and other astrological influences as a system for spiritual reflection, personal development and understanding the direction of your life.
Created by Tess Whitehurst with artwork by Ana Novaes, this 51-card oracle draws from esoteric astrology, particularly the teachings associated with Alice Bailey. Within this approach, astrology is concerned not only with who you are, but with how you develop: the relationship between personality and soul, the qualities you are learning to embody, and how your individual life connects with something larger.
You do not need to understand birth charts or have previous knowledge of astrology to use the deck. The cards are designed to be drawn and read as an oracle, making the system accessible whether you already work with astrology or are approaching it for the first time.
What is Esoteric Astrology?
Traditional Western astrology often uses the positions of the planets and zodiac signs to explore personality, relationships, circumstances and cycles within a person’s life.
Esoteric astrology approaches those same symbols through a spiritual lens. Rather than asking only “What does this placement say about me?”, it considers questions such as “What am I developing?”, “What is being asked of me?” and “How can I work with this energy consciously?”
This is why some of the associations within the deck may be unfamiliar even to people who already know astrology. For example, the Aries card discusses Mercury as the esoteric ruler of Aries, while Taurus is connected with Vulcan within the esoteric system. These are deliberate parts of the tradition the deck draws upon rather than replacements for the planetary rulers used in conventional astrology.
Working with the Cards
The 51 cards move through zodiac signs, planets and other astrological and spiritual influences, translating a complex esoteric system into something that can be used for everyday readings.
Each card combines its astrological influence with a central message. Aries: Courage to Lead considers authenticity, initiative and leadership; Taurus: Let Divinity Shine Through turns towards structure, the physical world and creating sustainable foundations; while Pisces: Love Deeply explores the emotional and spiritual dimensions of Piscean energy.
Other cards move beyond the twelve zodiac signs. Black Moon Lilith: Bring Home the Exiled, for example, introduces another astrological point into the oracle, while cards such as Zodiac Woman: Wholeness and Destiny Fulfilled explore broader themes within the deck’s esoteric framework.
This means you can use the deck for a simple daily card, bring a specific question to it, or incorporate it alongside your existing astrology, tarot or oracle practice. Rather than requiring you to calculate what is happening astrologically before beginning, the cards allow you to encounter the symbolism directly.
A Different Approach to an Astrology Oracle
The Esoteric Astrology Oracle is particularly suited to those who already understand the basics of zodiac astrology but want to explore something beyond Sun signs and familiar planetary meanings. At the same time, its oracle format means beginners can work with the cards without first learning how to calculate or interpret a natal chart.
Ana Novaes’ artwork gives the deck its distinctive visual identity, combining monochrome figurative imagery with celestial symbols, geometric forms and gold detailing. The illustrations bring together contemporary collage and astrological symbolism while retaining the more mystical character of the system behind the cards.
