DECK OF THE MONTH: Tarot Divinatorium
Deck of the Month: Tarot Divinatorium is a Rider–Waite–Smith-inspired tarot deck created by acclaimed digital artist André Sanchez. Drawing together classical artwork, digital collage, and ornate baroque-inspired details, it feels both visually rich and surprisingly familiar, inviting you to spend time with the imagery before even beginning a reading.
For this month’s featured deck, I wanted to spend time not only reading with the Tarot Divinatorium but also understanding how its artwork and symbolism shaped the experience.
One of the deck’s most distinctive features is the mirrored artwork found on either side of each card. These subtle details provide additional symbolic layers, offering fresh insight for upright interpretations on one side and reversed or shadow aspects on the other. It is a thoughtful addition that encourages readers to slow down, observe more closely, and discover new depth within the imagery.
First Impressions of the Tarot Divinatorium
I found myself returning to the Tarot Divinatorium repeatedly, noticing new details within the artwork each time I worked with it. When you first reach for the deck, the smooth velvet box immediately stands out. It creates a sensory experience that unknowingly invites you into a world of beauty, luxury, and pleasure from the very beginning.
Although the card stock feels quite thin, there is an undeniable sense of luxury within both the design and artwork of the deck. The gilded edges transport you to another era, evoking the richness and elegance of the Gilded Age.
At first glance, there is a distinctly feminine quality to the deck. The artwork feels soft, romantic, and delicate. The imagery is reminiscent of late 16th-century paintings, with works inspired by the Old Masters reimagined through the lens of tarot.
The energy of the deck makes you want to pause and absorb every detail of the imagery before even using it as a divinatory tool.
Who is this deck for?
This deck is well suited to those who appreciate art, art history, and the reinterpretation of visual expression through tarot. It is accessible for both beginners and experienced readers, as the imagery remains relatively close to the traditional Rider–Waite–Smith deck.
The Tarot Divinatorium feels gentle yet honest in the messages it conveys, offering a nurturing and emotionally supportive energy to both the reader and recipient.
It is particularly recommended for individuals with an affinity for the visual arts who wish to weave this appreciation into their spiritual practice.
The deck also feels supportive for readers who work intuitively and emotionally, as the artwork deeply engages the sensory and emotional body.

Personal reflections or Preferences
This deck is undeniably visually striking. You are first drawn into the beauty of the artwork before even identifying the cards and their meanings.
Whilst I deeply appreciated the artistry of the deck, I do feel it is important to acknowledge that its imagery is not particularly representative or inclusive. Whilst this may reflect the artistic influences of the late 16th century, there appears to have been a minimal attempt to showcase diversity.
Personally, I tend to prefer a thicker card stock. However, the gloss finish of the Tarot Divinatorium allows the cards to shuffle smoothly and makes them ideal for readers who work with flying cards. I also found myself noticing something different each time I returned to the Tarot Divinatorium, which made working with the deck feel fresh rather than repetitive.
Handling the deck feels almost meditative, as though it asks you to slow down and become fully present with the experience.

The World
Traditionally, The World symbolises completion, harmony, and achievement. In this deck, the woman is adorned with floral arrangements that weave around her body as she floats amongst the clouds.
This imagery adds an extra layer of meaning to the card, suggesting that completion can arrive by embracing feminine energy and allowing yourself to bask in the beauty of fulfilment, rather than viewing completion as fixed or static.

Four of Coins
The rising sun behind the seated woman holding her coins creates an energy of confidence, openness, and receptivity.
Rather than portraying the restraint and control traditionally associated with the Four of Pentacles, this depiction feels more surrendered and accepting, almost embodying the phrase,
“What will be,
will be.”

Seven of Cups
Staying true to the Rider–Waite–Smith tradition, we see the back of a male figure presented with seven overflowing cups representing multiple choices and possibilities.
However, in this interpretation, the figure stands firmly upon a rock and holds a cane, suggesting stability and assurance whilst making decisions.
This softens the confusion often associated with the Seven of Cups and instead gives the card a feeling of grounded assertion and trust in one’s choices.

Deck of the Month: Tarot Divinatorium
After spending time with the deck, I noticed there are multiple layers through which the cards can be interpreted and utilised in readings. Alongside the main artwork, there are mirrored images placed on either side of the card, offering a more intricate and nuanced layer of interpretation.
The mirrored artwork is quite small, so some readers may benefit from using a magnifying glass to fully appreciate the detail.
The left mirror represents positive or upright interpretations, fresh insight, and encouragement.
The right mirror represents reversed meanings, caution, or shadow aspects connected to the card.
This is a unique feature of the deck, effectively offering three layers of interpretation within each card and adding significant depth for both reader and recipient.
Overall, our Deck of the Month: Tarot Divinatorium feels less like simply opening a tarot deck and more like stepping into an immersive artistic experience feels like an experience rather than simply a tarot deck, one that is best absorbed slowly and approached as a full sensory journey.
About the Creator
The Tarot Divinatorium was created by André Sanchez, a French digital artist whose work combines photography, graphic design, and digital collage to create richly layered, dreamlike imagery. Drawing inspiration from artists including Frida Kahlo, Peter Greenaway, and Dave McKean, his work blends historical influences with contemporary digital techniques to create visually immersive compositions.
This distinctive artistic approach is reflected throughout the Tarot Divinatorium, where classical European paintings are thoughtfully reimagined through the structure and symbolism of tarot, resulting in a deck that feels both timeless and contemporary.
The Tarot Divinatorium by André Sanchez is available to purchase, while stocks last, in-store and online at Wax Spiritual for £23.99.
