Archangel Michael: Protection, Courage and Finding Your Own Strength

Archangel Michael has long been associated with protection, courage and strength, but for Antoinette, that connection is also deeply personal. In her readings, angels and spiritual guides may sometimes make themselves known, although their presence is never something she promises or calls on demand. Following on from our earlier conversation with Antoinette about her intuitive practice, this reflection offers a closer look at one of the spiritual presences she feels most connected to: Archangel Michael.

As I sit down to write this, I can feel him already. There’s something about the energy of Archangel Michael that’s comforting and unmistakable. It’s strong, grounded and powerful.

He emits a presence, a knowing that we’re safe, supported and stronger than we realise. Michael’s energy reminds me of who I am and dares me to be brave enough to stop giving my power away.

This is one of the reasons why I love him so much and have to admit that he is my absolute favourite Angel.

There’s no judgement with Michael, but he also doesn’t play.

He’s supported me to be the best version of myself and helped me to remove some of the most difficult blockages, people and situations that I’ve ever had to deal with.

But before I get into the awesomeness that is Archangel Michael, I want to make sure that we’re all clear on what an Archangel is.

What Is an Archangel?

The words Angel and Archangel are used to describe different levels or roles within the angelic realm.

Angels are light beings who act as messengers and guides. They support, comfort, protect and assist us in various ways throughout our lives.

Archangels are traditionally understood as carrying a greater or more powerful frequency. The energy that comes with them is insane.

The first time I connected with the energy of the Archangels, my whole body vibrated. I’d never felt anything like it. I was intrigued and mesmerised. So much made sense, but I also felt like I needed to learn so much more.

The energy of the Archangels is connected to particular purposes or forms of divine service. Kind of like ‘God’s wingmen/women’. And yes, Angels and Archangels can be male, female or nonbinary!

Angels may work with us in deeply personal and individual ways, while Archangels are often associated with broader energetic forces like protection, healing, love, transformation and courage.

They are both understood in different ways across different traditions and belief systems, but a common theme is that many are associated with light, guidance and a connection to something greater than ourselves.

Archangel Michael and Protection

Archangel Michael carries one of the strongest protective associations across many traditions.

Mic, as I’ve affectionately come to know him, is often described as the protector, the warrior of light and the defender of truth.

His name is roughly translated as ‘Who is like God?’

For me, and thousands of others, Archangel Michael has come to the rescue many times. I experience him with a pale blue light and a sword of protection, showing up to assist when things seem impossible, overwhelming or stuck.

He’s all about clearing away what no longer serves us while surrounding us in strength and protection. He’s about discernment, cutting through illusions and removing the frequency of fear. I love that and am so here for it!

If you’ve been feeling overwhelmed, going through a major transition, or dealing with people or situations that leave you feeling drained, Archangel Michael may be an energy you feel drawn to. The same applies if you need courage, help setting boundaries or the strength to speak your truth.

Signs of Archangel Michael

He could be calling out to you if you keep seeing or hearing his name, noticing swords or repeatedly seeing the colour blue.

Some people describe physical sensations when they feel Archangels are near, such as tingling or hearing a high-pitched frequency. Feathers are another sign commonly associated with Angels and can be interpreted as confirmation of an interaction with an Archangel.

You might simply have a feeling, a knowing, a sense that there’s an energy you’re being invited to explore.

It’s easy to doubt this connection, but I’ve learned that, for me, it’s not about proving it’s real. If you’re curious, open and have a little faith, you can allow yourself to explore what that connection means to you.

Working with Archangel Michael

You don’t need a complicated ritual to connect with Michael. All you need to do is ask.

Archangel Michael’s energy can be particularly powerful when working with emotional or energetic boundaries. The clearance and protection he provides can create a safe space for us to heal.

Choosing to work with and build a relationship with Archangel Michael is an invitation to remember our own strength.

The guidance may come through intuition, protection may be felt energetically, and blue light can become a powerful tool for visualisation. But ultimately, we still have to choose.

We have to set the boundary. We have to speak the truth. We have to walk away. We have to forgive ourselves. We have to decide what kind of life we’re willing to create.

Archangel Michael, Boundaries and Free Will

We all have free will. Archangel Michael doesn’t make the choices for us. His energy reminds us that we are capable of making them for ourselves.

Michael reminds us that we can be soft and still have boundaries, compassionate and still say no, love someone and still choose ourselves. We can be afraid and still move forward, get broken open by life and still rebuild into something stronger.

That’s the energy I feel when I connect with Archangel Michael, and that’s why he will always be my favourite.
