Description

The Starlit Path is an 8 x 10 inch art print by Los Angeles artist Kat Philbin, originally created for her 2020 solo exhibition 13 Foxes and the End of the World. Printed with crisp detail to preserve the fine linework and contrast of the original illustration, this piece feels both intricate and expansive despite its intimate size.

The composition is striking in black and white. A dark, celestial figure rides a spotted big cat through dense foliage, while a ribbon of stars winds its way upward toward a crescent moon. The background is rich and inky, allowing the leaves, fur, and constellations to glow with quiet intensity. There is movement throughout the piece, from the steady prowl of the animal to the drifting scatter of stardust above.

It feels mythic without being literal. Dreamlike without being overly sentimental. The monochrome palette gives it a timeless quality that works beautifully in layered interiors. It would sit comfortably in a home filled with houseplants and vintage frames, or in a more modern space where graphic black and white artwork makes a confident statement. It pairs effortlessly with dark wood, brass accents, velvet textures, and leafy corners.

There is something deeply emotive about this print. It speaks to journeying, companionship, resilience, and the quiet magic of night walks beneath a wide sky. For some it may feel gothic, for others simply poetic. Animal lovers, folklore enthusiasts, collectors of contemporary dark art, and those who appreciate finely rendered botanical detail will all find something to linger over here.

Kat Philbin’s work sits between horror and whimsy, mythology and tenderness. Originally from rural Southwest Missouri and now based in Los Angeles, she creates pieces that allow darkness and wonder to coexist. Each viewer brings their own meaning to the image, and there is no single story it insists upon.
