Our Lady of Guadalupe is a beloved and powerful symbol across both Catholic and folk spiritual traditions. Associated with divine compassion, maternal guidance, and unwavering protection, she is often seen as a guardian of the overlooked, a comfort to the grieving, and a spiritual mother to all. Many people place her image in their homes to invite peace, spiritual grounding, and connection to their ancestors. She is especially significant in Latin American communities, where she is considered not only a religious figure but a cultural emblem of resilience and devotion.
Our Lady of Guadalupe holds a powerful place not only within Catholicism but also in various ancestral and syncretic spiritual traditions. In Haitian Vodou, she is frequently associated with Erzulie Dantor, the fierce, protective Lwa of single mothers, survivors, and marginalised people. This connection is drawn through visual symbolism and shared roles—both figures are Black or brown-skinned maternal archetypes, depicted with solemn grace and deep emotional strength. Erzulie Dantor, like Mary, is often shown with her child, and both are called upon for matters of justice, love, and protection. On altars dedicated to Dantor, it’s not uncommon to see Catholic imagery of the Virgin Mary surrounded by blue candles, black beans, rum, or knives, symbolising her willingness to fight for those she protects.
In Santería (Lukumi tradition), Mary is often linked with Yemaya, the orisha of the ocean, motherhood, and nurturing love. Yemaya is considered the mother of all living things and shares Mary’s qualities of emotional depth, spiritual strength, and protective presence. Practitioners may keep statues or prints of Mary in their homes or on Yemaya altars, recognising her as a vessel of sacred maternal energy. Blue and white, both colours associated with Mary and Yemaya, are often used to honour these divine feminine energies side by side.
In folk Catholicism, particularly in Mexico and across Latin America, Mary—especially in her Guadalupe form—appears as a bridge between Indigenous traditions and Catholic worship. She is believed by many to represent Tonantzin, the Aztec mother goddess of the earth. The site of her apparition, Tepeyac Hill, was once a shrine to Tonantzin, making her story a powerful symbol of colonial resilience and spiritual syncretism. In this context, Our Lady becomes a vessel of ancestral memory and Indigenous pride, reminding people of their roots and inner sovereignty.
Across these traditions, Mary functions not only as a saint but as a divine feminine force—at once healer, mother, protector, and warrior. Whether honoured on a Catholic altar, a Vodou pè (shrine), or a folk devotional space filled with candles and flowers, she carries the prayers of the living to the unseen. Her statues are used to invoke spiritual calm, maternal strength, and guidance during life’s most tender or challenging moments.
This resin statue is ideal for larger altars or as a central devotional figure. It may be placed with candles, flowers, rosaries, or personal offerings. Due to the material, it should be kept out of direct sunlight and away from heat sources such as radiators or open flames, as high temperatures may cause warping or discolouration. Resin is not fire-resistant. Wipe clean only with a dry cloth—avoid water and cleaning chemicals, as they may damage the surface.
Each statue is hand-poured and unique, with subtle texture variations. Listing is for one statue—please choose your preferred colour before checkout.
